99 v70 thumping noise from under console? V70-XC70

Have a 99 V70 AWd wagon,have been lately getting a thumping noise from under the console area when car is put in gear and given a shot of gas,do not have any other noises,is there a steady bearing under there somewhere,have not had a chance to look at it yet.car runs fine on highway do not feel any vibrations otherwise,also when backing up when brakes are applied,makes a noise that feels like you backed into someone?any help is appreciated

The forward CV joint for the driveshaft, directly under the shift lever, needs to be looked at. It could be loose.
Also examine the transmission mount and engine mounts for cracks. It could be the exhaust touching the driveshaft.
The heat shield is often loose, but that will result in a rattle.

The 164 has a new home, all I am left with are a 95 854T and a 98 V70R :)
