All:
I have a 2004 V70 2.5 T AWD that is driving me crazy and I need some help.
This car (wagon) has 60,000 miles on it now and for the last 20K miles it has had an intermittent "clunking or clicking" noise from the front end. It only happens when either accelerating from a stop or stopping and it does not happen all the time. It sounds like a single "click" and you can hear it and feel it; sort of like when you turn a rusty bolt with a big wrench and it turns that last bit. Every trip it to the dealer, the noise goes away and they think I am crazy. They say that if they can't hear it, then the problem does not exist and therefore cannot be repaired. Whatever the problem, it has been documented so I will push for it to be a warranty repair.
Recently after a long drive to Vienna, the noise got even worse and the noise changed to a creaking/rattling and groaning over every cobble stone and bump in the road. I honestly thought something was going to fall off the car. But now that noise has gone away and the car is back to its normal ways of just the intermittent clicking and cluncking.
Does the S70/V70 have a history of problems with the front end? Bushings? Control arms? Steering Rack? Engine/motor mounts?
Other than this, its been a great car (my thirds Volvo) and its a great car for high speed touring in Germany but this nagging problem has soured the relationship and will likely be my last. The new V70 style plus this problem have really turned me off the brand.
Are there any RKIs out there who can point me in the right direction so I can focus my local Volvo dealer on something to try and resolve this.
Thx
