Beside shocks, does anything ever break on the rear suspension? 850

Just completely rebuilt my '96 855's front suspension: control arms, tie rod ends, struts, spring seats, strut bearings, calipers and rotors. A number of these parts were on their second, even third, replacement.

I replaced the shocks, calipers and rotors on the rear, but in contrast to the front end, the rear suspension appears to be bulletproof.

Is this really the case, or am I missing something?

I need to get the car re-aligned, but if there is something additional that is likely to wear-out in the rear suspension during the next year, I'd rather replace it now.

Any thoughts?

The trailing arms will drive you nuts when they go ,because you think the problem is in the shock or its mount .
Groton has a good picture breakdown.
When they go it sounds like a loose shock.
Facing the rear wheel, move it left to right a couple of times.
If you have play , the trailing arms need replacing.

Check the transverse arm mounts. They are what keeps the rear wheels in alignment. I had one break on my 96. It was found during a NYS inspection.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was questoning.

The front has a bunch of components that, with wear, cause the car to loose alignment.

But the back doesn't seem to have too many wear issues.

On each of the two transverse arms there are two articulation points, which are replaceable.

Does anyone ever replace them as a maintenance item?

Or, do you just wait until something on the backend breaks?

Usually the only thing that happens is the coil spring bumpers come loose.

I had an upper rear shock mount fail.
