AC blowing while car is off. V70-XC70 2001

2001 v70-T5M, 104,500 miles, new to me since last week.

Twice now I've come back to the car to find the air conditioning blower working full blast. It's not blowing cold because the car is not running, key is out of the ignition, and nothing else is on or responding to the buttons (as it should be when the car is off!) I tried messing with the climate controls while it was blowing but nothing made any difference. After inserting and turning the key, the blower will shut off and go back to the normal setting that I have it turned to.

I don't want to come back to a dead battery. Anybody have any ideas what this could be? I don't imagine push starting this bad boy will be anything like doing the same to my lightweight civic when I was still in college.

No messages on the display, but I haven't had a chance to scan the OBD to see if there are any codes there. I'll do that when I get home this evening.

Thanks everybody!

AC blowing while car is off. V70-XC70 2001

Andry M. Hit this perfect. I only add it is to keep the mold from growing on the evaporator and in the ducts. A pretty nifty feature from Volvo. When it first happened to me I freaked out and talked to my dealer!

Apparently you've bought this car recently ;-)

This is perfectly normal bahaviour for P2 (2001+) V70. It dries the evaporator, so it should only be happening if your AC was working during the last trip (which is kinda stange for this time of the year unless you're in Australia).

Battery-wise - mine survived for 7 years so far... ;-)

      Thanks, question answered. V70-XC70 2001

Not Oz, South Florida, very South Florida. Gotta love the winter daytime highs in the mid 80°s. (Not really, would be nice to have SOME winter weather once in a while, not to mention the cooler air in the intake.)

I'm glad the car is only doing something it's supposed to do. Pretty cool, actually! Thanks a bunch for the super quick response!

This was a great thread. As the new owner of a used V70, I won't go ballistic if I find my car doing this. It is painful to be the one whose lesson teaches others what to look out for, eh?

I'm glad your new car isn't fubar. Enjoy.
