Rear brake rotor removal V70-XC70 1999

I wish to have my rear brake rotors machined. I see there is a big nut (connecting the rotor to the axle) in the center. Does this require removal in order to remove the rotor? What is the torque value for this big nut?

    You really shouldn't turn the rotors -- it's only higher profit to the shop .... V70-XC70 1999

    Turning, or lathing, the rotors is the wrong thing to do. Sure, garages (especially years ago when disk brakes first came out) promote this -- it generates revenue! That's how the machines are sold to the garages -- I've seen the old pro magazines promoting them, promising hundreds of dollars in profit.
    But turning them removes mass, and therefore the rotors will heat up to a higher temperature for the same braking effort -- something you don't want!
    Replacement rotors are cheap enough -- that's the right way to fix a problem.

    By the way, why turn the rotors? Do you have a problem, or is it just routine maintenance? If the latter, you should know that you don't have to turn them just because you're replacing the pads.

    Rear brake rotor removal V70-XC70 1999

    Only rust holds the rotor on. Just make sure you release all tension in the parking brakes by turning the adjuster in the center console.

    I wouldn't bother "turning" the rotors. New replacements are fairly cheap.

    Make sure you clean off all of the rust and use brake grease on the hub before putting the rotor back on. No need to have it get all rusty again.
