Can you take the headlights a part and just replace the glass lens? 850 1996

Hello All,

I have a 1996 850 GLT wagon with 260,000 miles on it, and another 1996 850 GLT wagon with 190,000 miles on it. I've noticed that both lense have developed a "scratched haze" on the surface of each headlight lense due to age. This is really apparent when I lift up the headlight wiper blade which protect the surface of the lense and it is completely transparent or clear in appearance.

My question is: Can you just replace the glass lense or do you have to replace the entire headlight housing? I noticed the glass lense seems to be held in place by a series of sliding on clamps that slide over protrusions in the face of the lense.

If you can replace these headlight lenses, where do you get them and how expensive are they?

Thanks to all who reply.

Hugh

I have bought parts through IPD and been satisfied with the exception of the headlight lens I bought for my 850. It fit just fine, but the lens split the beam in a perculiar way. Nothing near the original patern. It was so annoying that I switched it with a salvage yard lens.

If you do replace the lenses DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN THE REFLECTORS!!!

I have read several tales of woe told by those who tried.

If you don't want to take the time replaceing the lenses try a Google search using "headlight lense polishing". Plenty of products to choose from.

Depending on where you live, FCP Groton and Ebay have them also.

You will have to take out the headlight asembly to replace the lenses. New lenses come with new rubber gaskets and clips. I just use a screw driver to remove the clips. 10mm screws hold the headlight inplace.
