Oxygen Sensor / Engine Codes 850 1994

My car has been running rough and my gas mileage is under 20 miles per gallon and my check engine light came on last week. When I check it I get the following codes:

2-2-1
2-3-2
1-1-3

All indicate the fuel is running too rich. Do I need to replace the O2 sensor?
If so, is there more than 1? Please let me know if you can be of assistance.

Regards,

Margaret Rosado

There are 2 O2 sensors, one before the CAT and one after. Usually when this happens, it is the forward O2 sensor that has failed.
BUT, it may be due to a vacuum line leak. Most leaks are at the elbows of the vacuum lines, several under the battery tray and a notorious one on the passenger side of the intake manifold. If, however, you use cruise control and the speed is held steady up and down hill, then it is probably an O2 sensor.

      Hi Klaus,

Vacuum system for the cruise control is a totally independent system from the engine. It has its own vacuum pump, installed below the battery tray. At least on a 1994 vehicle.
The problem should be a leak on the usual places(vacuum tree or on some of the elbows or rubber tubes).
By the way, you wouldn't happen to know the correct dimensions (diameter) for the vacuum rubber hoses that connect to the turbo area and to the air filter box.
Need that info to get some new ones.

      Regards,
      Rui Amaro

I broke a nipple off the vacuum tree and temporarily patched it and forgot about it. Last week my cruise started to loosen up. My patch had fallen off! The dealer only asked $5.50US for a new tree!!! A real bargain.

Don't know which lines you are refering to. All lines are measured in MM, just pull one off and get your kid's ruler with MM on it.

And stop hijacking someone elses thread :)
