heater core replacement cost 850

My dad has a '96 and lives in the D.C., area. He recently replaced the heater core. He went to the dealer and paid $700. Does that sound reasonable? I'm thinking it couldhave been done for a lot less at an independent shop. The car has about 130,000 mile on it. I have a '94 but I don't live with him so I can't tell him where to go.

Did mine about 6 months ago. 90€ for the heater core, 5€ for the antifreeze (heater core exploded and i was left with a pool at the footwells) and about 45 minutes to remove and replace it.

    Best of luck

That sounds about right for a dealer. Most of us shade tree mechanics can do it in a couple of hours and a 6 pack of brew.
