Unwanted light show on my dashboard V70-XC70 2005

Hi all. I recently "upgraded" from an 850T to a V702.5T. All was not well (I still like the ride of the 850 better!) until one night last week. I was driving to the store, and all of a sudden this yellow exclamation point starts blinking, and the text display shows "Position Light Failure".

The blinking speed was rapid, maybe 4 or 5 per second. It also changed frequency, would stop and then restart based on ??? It was extremely annoying.

Once I got to the store, I pulled out the manual (I was too lazy to get out and check the lights). I thought "I'll find out what this message means." WRONG. All I found out was that if the light blinks red or is solid, stop the car. The manual does NOT document what the message "Position Light Failure" means.

What a joke. Turned out to be one of 6 parking lights. Give the driver a heart attack over a redundant indicator. I yearn for the days when the 850 simply illuminated a light bulb icon on the dash. Couldn't they come up with a message such as "Parking Light Failure"? Are all the translators in Iraq? Snif.

"position" lights is a British acrnonym, I believe.

I agree with you, it should light up, but not blink at you. My wife's 2001 A4 beeps at her when the windshield washer fluid gets low... a very loud beeeeeeep! The first time I heard it I almost bailed out of the car :)
