2002 S80 backing up S80

Recently I hae noticed a rubbing sound when I back up and it seems to happen once with every tire revolution. This does not happen moving forward. Additionally when turning left, I hear a similar sound, once with every revolution a metallic noise. I think this one may be the sheet metal plate behind the brake assembly. Any ideas on the backing up sounds??

Is the noise coming from the front wheel or the rear? If the front, check the wheel assembly by rocking the wheel to see if there is movement. It could be a bad bearing or other suspension piece.

      Klaus:

The noise is coming from the right rear wheel area. Your thoughts?

It could be the dust cover. Just push it away from the rotor.
Or, it could be the parking brake shoe if your new model has drums in the rear. The positioning clips sometimes get bent when the rotor has to come off, and if that is the case, the only solution is to remove the rotor and bend the clip back to 90 degrees.

You might want to try lightly pulling up on the e brake handle while backing up and see if the noise goes away or gets worse.
