timing belt at 105k service V70-XC70

Is it customary to change the pulleys at 105K when replacing the timing belt?
I've seen several recommend the tensioner but not to much about the pulleys.
What to do?

timing belt at 105k service V70-XC70

Hi ward.

I recently changed the belt, and pullys on my 97 AWD V70 at 141.000 mls,on this car every 70.000 mls is the interval.

My pullys were still servicable, but dry and noisy when spun close to my ear. 'IF' they are the same design as the 105.000mls interval car, it would surprise and alarm me that they were expected to do 210.000 mls! SO. Unless MR Volvo says something else, I think it makes technical sense to change them at 105.000 mls.

Best regards.

Howard. Isle of Skye.

You obviously have a V70 newer than late 1998 when the new style tensioner appeared. The tensioner must be replaced with the belt. Also a good time to replace the Serpentine belt.
Have the pulleys checked and replaced if needed. The water pump is usually good for 180K miles plus, but it should be checked at this time.

Also about time to replace the fuel filter...

P2 cars timing belt are at 105k in the owner's manual. One Volvo tech notes hairline cracks well before then and advise changing earlier.

I also read the tensioner and pulley are the failure points as grease leaks and they seize. I changed it with an FCP kit that contained the belt, tensioner and pulley. I recall it was $135 or so.

The belt is hard to work in if you don't pull the crank pulley. Here are a bunch of info + notes I made when I did this

Actually, I think the service interval is 70k and 140k etc. but anyhow, I did mine at 60 and 120. At 120, I replaced the tensioner (hydraulic type), tensioner pulley, idler pulley, water pump, belt, serpentine belt and obviously coolant.

The pulleys did not have any play but I did not wish to take any chances and also the water pump seemed ok but I dont want to go back in any time soon.

FCP Groton (nfi) had a kit that included all the parts [oem] and oil seals as well if you need them for around $330.
