Cleaning Throttle Body V70-XC70 2000

I've read that the throttle body should be cleaned every once in a while. If I'm right, it is located just behind the radiator but below the intake manifold. It seems really hard to get to. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove and clean it? It seems it's really hard to get to even from the below the vehicle.

Thanks,

RGW

RGW, you are confusing things. The throttle body (TB) is connected to the intake manifold on the driver's side, and, the air from the air cleaner enters the TB through a large black hose.
You can either remove the TB and clean it, or, as one bricker did, have a helper turn the ignition on/off after removing the air supply hose, and spray TB cleaner into it when the electronic throttle opens.

It almost sounds like you are talking about the oil separator. That does not get cleaned perodically, it gets replaced when it gets gummed up. Replacement is a 5 hour job. The usual indicator is air/smoke coming out of a hot oil dipstick while the engine is at idle. If there is a light vacuum pressure at the dipstick, all is well.

KLAUS, For my education: what is the oil separator?? did it replace the PCV valve??? Does it perform the same fuction ??? I have been told my 2003 and 2004 V70's do not have a PCV. Where is the oil separator located that it requires 5 hrs replace... thx. Art

None of the 850/70 turbos have had a PCV. Those things are long gone, RIP.

The oil separator has been around for 30+ years. On the 5 cylinder engines, it is under the intake manifold. Removing and replacing the intake manifold is a 5 hour DIY job. An experianced mechanic can do it in less than three, probably 2 hours. The dealer book time is 3 hours.

The parts to replace the oil sep box and associated hoses is about $120-150US.

I tried once with considerable difficulty. My 1999 V70 was about 50,000 miles old then, and I sprayed a lot of throttle body cleaner in it and the liquid came out clear. At that mileage, it was not fouled or gunked up at all. Two weeks ago, I cleaned the MAF sensor, and it was clean also, so I don't know what to say about how often these things need to be checked.

Thanks all or the enlightenment! It certainly looks much easier to clean the TB than the oil separater below the intake manifold. Glad I asked.
