ETM recall C70 2001

Has anyone who owns a C70 had their ETM replaced per the Volvo recall? If so, how much difficulty did the dealer give you before they agreed to do it?

I own a '01 C70 that I purchased with 30,000 miles on it three years ago. About 1 1/2 yrs ago, I had the symptoms associated with an ETM problem and so the dealer did the software upgrade and the car ran great for a few months. Then back to the same surging, stumbling, etc. When I took the car back to the dealer, they would not replace the ETM but said that I needed to have a throttle body cleaning for $90 as the next step before they would consider doing anything else. Now several months later, I am back to the surging, stumbling, etc.

I had my independent Volvo mechanic drive the car this week while it was in for service and it was fine at the time and no codes had been thrown.

One it starts acting up again (and it will), I plan to head straight to the dealer. Can anyone on Brickboard who has had this experience tell me how you handled it and what suggestions/approach you would recommend to me. Thanks, Fred.

The dealer will not replace the ETM unless there are codes that have been set. You can complain forever, but without codes there will be no replacement.

So the next time it goes into limp home mode, go directly to the dealer and do not turn the engine off when you get there or let it sit all night in their lot.

No doubt the new software will not set any codes.

My ex-wife's 99 V70 is surging. We had the software reloaded and the car ran fine. Now the surging has started again. Yesterday, my son and I took the ETM off and cleaned it. It ran fine for me but the ex says it's still surging, a bit.

I suspect the servo feedback resistor are worn out in certain spots and there are no replacements for them available, so the whole thing needs to be replaced.

ETM recall C70 2001

Hi Fred, I have a 2000 C70 LPT and replaced the ETM when the car died on the side of the road...it was surging on my wifre for a few days before this occured. I replced it at my expense ($1200) and then reported the problem to the National Highway Safety Administration... About a year later I received a letter from Volvo requesting I visit our locsal Volvo dealer to submit my claim for reimbursement...which they did...
