Water in spare tire compartment S70

I am looking to buy S70. I checked one yesterday '99 S70 - very strange thing when I looked at spare tire compartment, there was like a bucket of water- spear sitting half in the water. It looked like water has been there for a while. Owner was very surprised and had no idea how the water get there. Any ideas, any problems with gaskets

Thank you for help.

    LOL

I bet the guy parks under a maple tree! There are 2 drain tubes on each side of the car behind the panneling. The driver's side is probably blocked or came loose when throwing the spare back into the compartment.
Check the upper rail of the trunk at the corners, by the window. You should see a small hole for a drain. Fishing a 12 guage insulated wire down the hole could unclog the drain.

You could pull out the spare and using a bucket, get rid of the water. But, if it were me, I would look at another car.

This is a common problem and a very quick fix. There is a coupling for the rear window wash. In icey weather, the water freezes and causes a lot of back pressure causing the union in the trunk/boot to blow off. Silicon/glue back together.
