Throttle hesitation--advice badly needed V70-XC70 2004

Am looking to buy a 2004 V-70 R wagon for my sister. Test drove one today with 37K on it and a lot of engine corrosion from having been purchased at some beach town in Florida and then driven here to Oregon. Car hesitated for an instant when I stepped on the gas peddle and then lunged. Very uneven throttle control because of the lag. A Volvo owner told me same thing happened to his 2004 wagon and Volvo replaced the transmission (still under warranty). Can someone tell me what the problem is, and is it the transmission, not the electronic throttle control? Any other issues with this year and model? Dick

Be very careful!!! No one in their right mind would drive a low slung R on the beach. So the aluminum block corrosion could be from high tide flooding during a hurricane. Who knows what happens if salt water got inside of the block or tranny.

Check the front seat mounts for corrosion, no one ever looks there. Or inside the rear seatbelt latches. Or lift the rear seat cushion and look for water damage.
