850 will turn over but not start 850 1993

The 1993 850 I bought is now turning over but not starting. It appears to have pressure at the fuel rail (comes out the pressure fitting if it is pushed). I believe it may not be getting spark, but since I took the starter out its hard to tell (push starting it now).

What are some common electrical Gremlins in the 850's that would cause no spark?

coil?
cap/rotor/plugs (they looked kinda bad)?
crank position sensor?
MAF?
Other sensors/computer stuff?

    Well I replaced the spark plugs and cap/rotor and it RUNS GREAT! I bought the car for $400 and put another $50 into it. Probably another $170 for a starter and its all good.

      If you put the starter in a vice, you can bench test it with 12 volts. Probably just a bad solenoid. Search the local junk yards for a good starter, any 850 year will do, I believe.

      You are not done yet! Due to the previous owner's neglect of maintenance, I would check all of the vacuum lines and elbows. The oneway valves in the vacuum lines also need to be checked. There is probably enough sludge in the engine to keep the seals from leaking - do NOT use synthetic or heavy duty cleaner engine oils.

      Check the tranny fluid, it should be dark reddish brown. You may want to flush it, along with the neglected power steering fluid and the very old brake fluid.

    How is the battery charge? A low battery will cause the ECU to make either bad decisions or no decisions. When you took off the starter did you hook the alternator lead back to the battery lead? Beyond that, start pulling codes from A-2.

    Check the diagnostic box for trouble codes first. The 700/900 FAQs on this board will tell you how to do it.

    If the plugs are fouled and you are pushing the car, lots of luck!
