SC-901 installed 4 or 5 years ago has recently been showing "CD 3 ERROR" on the screen. On command to eject, will go thruough shuffling routine but not actually eject cartridge. will not play CDs, although radio and tape deck function normally. Any suggestions on methods of diagnosing? Methods of at least retrieving the cartridge if the player is dead? Current dealer price for trade-in for new one?

You have a CD stuck in the system. Make sure you have the security code and then pull the unit out of the car. Take the front faceplate off and see if you can cause the cartridge to come out to expose the CD that is stuck.
Some of the radios have a button or slot in the back that can be pushed in to unlock the cartridge.
You will probably loose the CD that is stuck, needle nose pliers and CDs don't mix very well.

Try this 1st. Using a drivers licence or similar card, slide the card into the gap between the cartridge and the radio. I cant remember if the release tab is on top or bottom buut I think the top. probe the card untill tou feel thhe cartridge release. Unload the remaining discs and reload and try eject.
