Sensor hanging down V70-XC70

Good day all, I have a black 98 V70 base, which is basically new to me. The 2 front tow hook covers are missing, and I noticed in the left one there is a wire (2 wires) hanging down with a sensor on the end. I think it may be some sort of temperature sensor, but am unsure. I was hoping someone could tell me what this sensor might be and where it is suppose to be mounted. Also was wondering if anyone knew what these tow hook covers are actually called and if they are available after market.

Thanks

The tow hook covers you refer to are called "grilles" (p/n 9151509 for the right)at the dealership - right and left, and as Klaus says, they were about $20.(Cdn) when I bought one last year. They snap in (and out, obviously), as happened with my '98 V70. It was bought used, and perhaps I didn't notice, or maybe caused it myself - a crack across the strut just to the right of the licence plate bracket. While getting accustomed to where the nose of this machine is located during parking, I've run the lower bumper trim bolster up on some higher than normal stop blocks, and I guess that's what caused the crack. It's not that easy to see, and excessive flexing in that area might allow the grille to pop out, so I'd pay special attention to this, just in case.
I'm not going to insert the replacement grille until I've gotten the bumper trim redone.
Hope this helps - and I'd be interested in knowing if you find any similar damage on your vehicle.
    Regards,
    Garth

I believe the dealer charges less than $15 each, call the parts dept and ask.

The left temp sensor plugs into the small grill on the left side, there is a round hole made for it. The temp sensor on the right side is supposed to be plugged into the air guide/splash guard, but no one ever puts it back into place after dropping it down. I just glued mine into the small grill on the right side - seems to work just fine.

    I still miss my 164 and my 854T. Just driving a V70R :)
