odometer gear replacement 850 1997

Hello again,
I was going to be replacing the odometer gear but before I started I had a couple of questions.
Do I need to disconnect the battery before doing the repair, and is there a chance I could trigger the airbags while working under the dash?

Thanks

You don't need to disconnect the battery and you shouldn't be working "under the dash" at all. Everything's done from the top. Don't forget to pull the dash top out slightly before you try to lift it off. The passenger side air bag does need to be disconnected but you can get to it after taking the glove box out. Don't forget to clean out any little pieces of broken gear.

I didn't bother to disconnect the battery on any of mine but it can't hurt anything. Make sure you have your radio code.
