Door speaker quit S70

The door speaker in the right front (passenger) door no longer produces any sound in my 98 S70. Rotating the fader and balance controls makes no difference.

Where do I start to solve this? Can I test the speaker from the connections at the rear of the radio? Seems like it would be easier to test there than pull the door panel off. Incidentally the little speaker in the dashboard on the right side works with the balance control fully right.

It is also possible that the magnet in the center of the speaker fell off. This happens to older Volvos, especially the small speakers in the dash.

You need to check the voltage at the speaker, sorry. And do not cross the wires, speakers are unidirectional.

My rear door speaker went bad and was cutting out intermittently. The connection to the cone went bad, and a solder repair on that only worked for a while. Third party units are too hard to find, need to be 8 Ohms, don't fit well, and don't sound better (I tried). The best fix is a Volvo replacement from a yard or eBay. Just connect a different working speaker to the leads to make sure the problem is in fact the speaker before you go shopping. Good Luck & have fun

        Thanks everyone for your replies.

It appears that the problem is actually the Volvo radio as I've now lost both front door speakers at times. The driver's door speaker cuts out at times now too.

The question now is, do I purchase a Volvo refurbished radio and install it, or do I go with an aftermarket radio.

I know different model but I replaced the stereo in my 89 740 with a pioneer premier head unit, and pioneer 2 way speakers on both doors. It has never sounded better.

I do know that the speakers are riveted into the door. You have to drill them out or something to get the speakers out.

Just thought I would chime in.
