What tools to buy to diy on 850. 850

I want to buy some tools so that I can do alot of the work on my 850 myself. I do not have many tools now, and have to borrow them from friends to work on my car.. What basic tools would I need to service, and repair my car. I have ramps, screwdrivers, and thats it seriously. I am looking to invest in tools that I will need to work on a 95 850 glt, and a 91 940 wagon. Thanks guys.

To start with you may want to buy the ones you're always borrowing unless your friends are really close by and always home. You just need a few Torx wrenches so I'd suggest not getting a all-in-one "multitool" type. They're just too clumsey to handle. Get a #10, 15 and 25 with a good handle unless you want to get a set and keep switching tips. You don't have to get Snap-On quality but I'd suggest staying away from Harbor Freight wrenches, sockets, plyers and screw drivers. Shop rags and rubber gloves seem to be OK. Look at the cheap stuff closely first. You can usually tell by the finish if it's built to last. Go up from there. Don't forget a extension grabber. I don't know haw many times one has saved me when I've dropped a bolt or nut down into some crevice or hole in the engine compartment. Get a good drop light or "miner's type" light that wraps around your head. Jack stands and a floor jack are also essential. The big multiple tool sets are usually really good buys but you end up not ever using 50% or more of the tools but there's a comfort level that's created with one that may make you sleep better at night. Good luck!!

-Torque Wrench 0-150 ft lbs range beam style works fine and is cheap $12-$15 or better click type $30 + up
-Metric sockets + long spark plug socket, 19mm for wheel lugs.
-Torx bit set (may have to shop for add'l individual sizes not sold in sets)
    -Alan wrenches
-various pry tools for all the plastic interior parts

That's about it outside the basic tool kit
After that the sky's the limit with specialty tools based on the jobs
    Good Luck & have fun

If you are a Costco or Sam's Club member to buy the largest tool set they offer - just an incredible number of tools for the money, pretty good quality too. After that, for specialty automotive tools you really can't beat Harbor Freight.

Check small tool sets on sale at Sears, sockets and wrenches. You will need a spark plug socket (long). The 850 will use Torx drivers, get a $5 folding set at Sears.

My first tool set was 1/4 and 3/8 drive combo. The 3/8 is needed, the 1/4 seldom used. For suspension, a 1/2 inch drive is required for most items due to the increased torque.

The 850 brakes require an allen wrench, 6mm or 7mm to get the slides out.

Of course, 5 point wrenches and sockets are best, but much more expensive than the multi points.

Buy gradually, if you can. Don't get cheap tools, they don't work. Look at Craigslist and at garage sales. Call the garage sale owner if it looks promising. You need to be able to store this stuff in your spare tire well, so don't buy big.

Other useful tools are needle nose pliers and vice grips.

I bought the 91 940, and it runs great, but needs to be serviced, and needs a tune up. What tools will I need to do this right?
