ECU air filter & irritating noise 850

Two questions:

The ECU has a small air filter, located near the radiator shroud, between air intake and computer. Is there a recommended service for this filter. If so, how often?

I have a small growling sound from engine area as rmp's gradually come up. Goes away in just a second or two when the RPM's get above 1K or so. Sounds like something is vibrating together. Almost like plastic pieces, but could be metal. Can not figure out what causes it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

1993 850 GLT 130,000 miles. Original owner. Best volvo I've owned.

    That air filter disappeared in later models, just clean it and replace it. It keeps the bugs out.

    Your noise sounds like plastic is loose. Check the area around the S and T belts.
