Looking at purchasing an 01 S80. Are these worth considering? S80

After hearing horror stories of the 99's an 01's, I noticed a relatively cheap S80 listed locally where the owner wants a mere 7700 for a car with 170kms on it.

ShouldI proceed further? or shouldI keep shopping? I'm only 28 and my GF and I would really like volvo again (after bmw's etc.) but I still enjoy working on my own cars when I have the time. The S60's of this time period are still a little too pricy for my budget.

Thanks for the help!

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! DO NOT CONSIDER ANY S80 MORE THAN $1000. you will need the balance to maintain and repair the sob. this is not a car for the
diy-er. bmw's-an e32 7-series is easier. really wanna work on a simple car-get a 240 or an e24/28 bmw, even an e30, but they are smallish. good luck, chuck.

      Thanks for the reply.

Actually, I'm on my second e30 at the moment, a mostly stock e30 325is...it's my 2nd e30, after my 86 325es (they look somewhat similar, but are totally different animals)

      thanks for the info!

P.S. actually, a nice older bmw does sound rather appealing to tell you the truth...I may just have to check out the local classisfieds for a minty one.

      happy motoring!

That looks like my current garage queen the 88 325is except mine's a HT with sport stuff added. Tight, durable and easy to work on, these are traits my cars MUST have.

          thanks for the help guys!

if you are used to e30s, than an s80 would just piss you off. done a tbelt on the 325? look at an s80. imagine doing the e30 belt without removing the fan. that's about how much room an s80 has. plus, you need tools to lock the cams to do the belt and not crash the valves. the mark on the crank looks like a hair fell on the gear. besides, those generation bmws-e23, 24, 28 and 30-look ok whereas the s80s look like swedish buicks. 'nuff said, chuck.

There is a reason the S80s are so cheap. The electronics tend to fail and only the dealer can work on them. I would pass and keep looking for a nice S60 with a T5 engine.
