From time to time in my V70 I get a message on the dash saying "BULB FAILURE - POSITION INDICATOR".
I have looked through the owner's manual and can find no reference to this bulb.
I have walked around the car with various lights turned on and cannot find any of them that don't seem to be working. Can anybody tell me what this is?

The bulb that's most likely bad is in the rear. If you access the light panel from inside, it will be the 3'rd bulb from the bottom. It is difficult to notice if this bulb is out because there are 2 bulbs lit on each side when the car is running. The bad bulb is the one on top where the light fixture narrows, in the middle of the fixture. Although I've had to replace this same bulb on my 01 V70, recently my bulb warning light came on so I removed the bulb and the filament appeared OK, so I reinstalled it and it worked fine. I suppose it was just a bit of corrosion preventing a good electrical contact. If your failure light is intermittently coming on, I would recommend replacing the bulb. I hope this helps.

Think of the term "parking light", and that might help. Don't forget the side markers!

The parking lights seem to be OK. Side markers flash with turn indicators.
Are they supposed to be on all the time?

That light *is* a parking light, isn't it? I seem to recall it being the light described by the chap above (3rd light up on the rear).

I also spent 15 minutes scouring my owner's manual for an explanation about that silly message. *Very* frustrating, isn't it? And my car is 4 years newer. Same thing. Must be the language barrier.
