RE: 1998 Volvo V70 T5 V70-XC70

Hi guys
I just have a question ragarding normal oil consumption.
What is acceptable level of oil consumption?
I have 1998 V70 T5 and it is look like about it is 1 littre per 3000-3500 km - is it OK? The car is on 140,000k and i'm not driving hard

Thnaks

That is very acceptable for the mileage.

Most of the oil is from the turbo, which tends to wear the oil seals and allows oil to seep into the the intake stream. You should see a little oil in the intercooler hoses leading up to the throttle body. Perfectly normal.

You also might want to consider replacing the oil separator box and the breather lines to keep the system clean and the crankcase pressure normal. This is a 5/6 hour DIY job, or about 3 hours at a good shop. Cost for parts is less than $200US and well worth it.

If you have been using synthetic engine oils, the breather box will probably be clean enough to leave alone, but needs to be monitored. Replace the rubber gasket in the oil filler cap if it hasn't been done in the past 2 years.
