850 axle question 850 1995

Hey all - recently lost the front left tire on my 95 850 GLT. I dont know if someone stole some lugnuts (this has happened in my family before) or if they all came loose at once, but only 1 sheared off in the hub. Threads wrecked on the rest of the holes in the hub as well. My question lies with the exposed threads on the end of my axle. I'm pretty sure I can get away with just a new rotor and hub, but the first 4 or 5 of the 12 exposed threads on the end of my axle are pretty badly worn down. I am going to try and file it down to see if I can use the locknut to recut them, but if this fails I was wondering if anyone knew the thread size/type on the end axle threads so I can try and track down a die. Thanks.

If the nut will come off then you should be alright, right? Think of them like a locking feature for the nut/axle! Who needs to bend down that little tab of use loc-tite when you've got buggered threads?!

Even better than a die to clean up threads is a thread file. I'm not sure what pitch the threads are but now may be a good time to invest in a set. McMater-Carr sells them: http://www.mcmaster.com/ search for "thread files".

Best of luck and keep those lugs tightened!

When you remove the nut (if you haven't yet), will it clean the threads up? Or is it beyond that? I would think that the nut will come off unless that thing is extremely buggered.

FCP groton sells those axles fairly cheap (around $80 or $90 per side). It might be best just to replace it.

Good luck with it!
