I'm glad you reminded me. This one is my daughers car. She picked it up about a year ago with 134K and she now has about 140K. I just checked the records and I did not do the T-Belt so I "ASS-ume I seen that it had been changed but need to re-confirm...

So, to your point, then it just appeared out of the blue.....

        Hi RT,
Reason I asked if tbelt was just done was that maybe it was put back on a tooth off. Since it hasn't been just replaced I guess there is the possibility that it skipped a tooth or, if it has VVT, there may be a problem with the VVt control module. My fiance's son's v40 has the VVt system and they had repeated CEL with a code that said valve timing was off. Indy shop and dealer both realigned t belt but the CEL kept coming back. Dealer finally diagnosed the problem as the module that resets the valve timing. I know virtually nothing (and couldn't find any info of value on this module). Long story short, dealer replaced and car has been fine since. I have done many tbelts on the red block cars and also did the belt on my daughter's s70 but hers is a '98 and does not have VVT. For info on replacement of the tbelt go here:

        lots of great info here.

    Hi RT,
Here is a site that you can input codes into and will give you back the plain(or not so plain) english translation for the code.

    http://www.actron.com/code_lookup.php

    hope this helps a bit,

    Dan

    Camshaft Position Actuator B - Bank 1 Timing Over-Advan.

Your timing belt is off by a tooth, probably the exhaust cam. You have VVT and it easily tries to move the cam when the belt is off. Procedure is to rotate the crank pully about 90 degrees past the timing mark and then rotate it back to TDC, before pulling off the T belt.

Klaus, do you know how Volvo numbers its banks? Is it 0 or 1 (like computers), or 1 and 2. I'm just curious if there would be a different code for the intake being off a tooth. I agree, the most likely problem will be the exhaust, but with my model there is no VVT on the intake, so knowing the difference in codes could come in real handy, and I'm always up for learning more.

It is not Volvo, it is your generic code reader. The five cyl inline engine has only one bank, bank 2 refers to V6/V8 engines which have a left and right bank of cylinders. Your engine has only 1 bank of cylinders, and the code reader will always refer to bank 1.

There was a posting very similar to yours last week from some one who just changed his timing belt and was one tooth off on the T belt. Same problem. He moved the exhaust cam 1 tooth and now all is well.

Two weeks later after resetting the code I get the following code:

          P1332

I have this S70 a little over a year and it had the T-Belt changed at (April 2003)76800 and now has 140K.... So I was avoiding going in and looking...

I think the above code is also related to the cam timing?

          Thanks

          Kevin

Klaus, your reply makes perfect sense, I was hoping the "bank" might refer to cam location (i.e. intake or exhaust). As you can see I was fishing for just that! Thanks for the reply!
