fault code 1-1-3 Oxygen sensor? 850 1995

Hi- Car ran 100% until yesterday. Started it after cold (40F) and very rainy day and it revved up really high and stayed there never stalled. I let it idle for a few minutes and shut it down. Restarted a few hrs later and the Check Engine light then was on. Drove home w/ no problems then read code 1-1-3. Cleared code and drove it to work and back home today (50 m roundtrip). CheckEng light didn't return today but it's not 100%. Still revs too high at start. Then sometimes at idle, it will rev high, slowly drop down to below normal (but not stall), then high again, very slowly, w/ no pattern. If bad O2 sensor, would it necessarily cause a 2nd code (specific to sensor)? What's the simplest way to test O2 sensor? What are most likely 2 or 3 causes? (Car has 200k w/ original O2 sensor but don't let that bias you!)

Hi, I would check all air inlet for leaks. I can create low idle mix by removing the air inlet guide to air filter box for a moment.

What pin did you get the 1-1-3 code on?

Check the plug on your idle air controller and the connections that go to it...take the cover off the throttle cable assembly and give the whole thing a good shot of Wd-40.....

It was on the A-2 socket.

1-1-3 = long term fuel trim too lean. O2 sensor sounds OK to me.

I suggest looking at the vacuum elbows around the intake manifold, at the accordian air intake, and the vacuum tree for leaks. Any leaks will give you high idle, which the computer will then try to compensate by making things over rich and lowering the idle.

best way to find vacuum leaks 850 1995

Why does O2 sensor sound like it's OK?
Also, what's the most reliable way to search for vacuum leaks, other than close visual inspection?
One other note: I've been smelling gas after parking in my garage following a fill-up (to the max), but that's been going on for months so I don't think it's related.

The Gas smell/leak when you fill up is a dangerous problem the dealer knows about. There is something that comes loose/brakes at the top of the tank. It cost me 300.00 dollars to have fixed. If you fill up close to home and park the car in the driveway for a bit, you will see a puddle of gas or see the spot on the tank where the gas is leaking. I would have that fixed soon. there is also a factory recall on the tank for mounting issues....

I visually inspect and then use a butane cigarette lighter, no flame, and see if the rpm changes pinpointing a leak. Your intake manifold might also be leaking at the gasket.

You don't have a code outstanding for the O2 sensor, and, the engine is trying to respond to the O2 sensor picking up the rich/lean condition.

Jetronic 3.2 code says short term fuel mixture too weak....

I have no idea what short or long term fuel mixture means as far as components, but it can never hurt to replace the fuel filter....
