Klaus,
I changed oil on my bevel gear and noticed that I have a oil leak where the transmission bolts on to the engine.
It appears to be what I would call the bell housing.
There is a small vent hole on the bottom and the oil is coming from there.
Could that be coming out of the bevel gear case and leaking into that area?
Thanks !

Sounds more like the rear main seal leaking. Immediately check your PCV system for blockages, the crankcase pressure could be too high.

Klaus,
Thanks!
Not sure how to follow the PCV system. Is there away one can confirm this.
Also the engine light did come on during this time.
What happened, about two weeks ago my dauther was avoiding a moose on the road and ended up in the ditch with snow around four feet deep and had to get towed out.
Is it possible some hose etc. may of got bent ,blocked.
I'll see what I can find.
Thanks Again!

Hitting a ditch is preferable to a 1 ton moose.
You need to get the codes read, probably a hose for the evap system came loose while being backed out of the ditch.
The crankcase venting has 2 critical vacuum lines, the hard to see elbow under the #1 piston intake manifold position. The other is the PTC nipple, located on the air intake line just in front of the turbo. This nipple tends to get clogged and causes all sorts of problems.
Pull the line off the nipple, and very carfully clean out the nipple or replace it altogether. It is not an easy place to work, lots of bending over involved, but very satisfying when cleaned.
Watch the rear cam seal for leakage also.

Hi Klaus.
I had the code read and came up with a 422.(Cat efficiency)
I'll probably replace the cat.
For whatever reason no more oil leaks, it was also leaking from bevel gear case.
I changed oil on the bevel gear system and there still was a some oil leaking
I cleaned off real good and and drove it about 100K now it appears dry or a least not dripping.
I also did check the PCV system as best as I could and found it clean and there is a slight vacum on the filler cap and dip stick which confirm that there is no pressure on the crankcase.
ThanKs again Klaus!!

Cat converters are not cheap. Your best bet is to clear the code and see if it comes back quickly. Also check the plug connections for the front and rear O2 sensors, the moose avoidance procedure might have jarred one loose.

Klaus.
Now here is a interesting issue.
My dauther drove 600K and yes there was oil dripping out of the bottom off the car.
Now a interesting thing is that we drove this car all around the city and it was dry.
The engine oil stays the same level on the dip stick and the tran oil maybe a little lower.( half way on the hot mark, more or less where it has always been)
The bevel gear oil level is fine.
So it appears that highway driving is causing the oil to leak out some where.
I suppose high engine speed etc, veruses city driving a low speeds.
I know that a small amount of oil looks like a quart when it is leaking.
My thinking is we did get a cat inefficiency reading on the code.
Could it mean that the cat is blocked and we are getting back pressure at high speeds.
The car drives great good power, turbo preform great.
I,m now driving with the dip stick open to see if it allows it from pressuring up..
Again my dauther drive this car and teaches 400K from home so I don't get much of a chance to work on it.
Thank again.

Unless your CAT code comes back, I doubt it is compromised to the point that your engine suffers. A partially blocked CAT will cause the performance of the turbo to suffer, but not cause increased crankcase pressure. Leave the oil dipstick in place!! You don't want oil all over the engine bay!
So long as there is a slight negative pressure at the dipstick, all is well with crankcase pressure.
The turbo oil return line might be leaking. That has a tendancy to flow down past the bell housing. It also usually leaks only when the turbo is spooled up, which would be at sustained high speeds until the leak gets worse. A mechanic can verify and replace the gasket easily.
It is a good thing your daughter avoided the moose, that would have caused a great deal of damage. Good driving on her part :)

Yes the engine light came on shortly after we took the code and canceled the light.
I did drive it with dip stick out and no oil any where.
I know from past experences that filler caps dip stick open can cause oil to spray all over the place.
I always did have a small leak at the turbo return line and that may be the problem ok, I'll have to check that out.
Thanks Klaus.
