1998 V70 FWD - what transmission and turbo or NA?

Klaus is right, are there maintenance records? If it's from a private seller and the records are missing, ask him (her) what happened to them. (I know, I know, "We don't keep things like that.") But that is a good hint that, "We don't bother to keep up with stuff like maintenance."

Not a bad price. Are there ANY service records? The timing belt gets changed every 80K miles. You need to check for a slight vacuum pressure at the crankcase if there are any oil leaks.
The car is old enough that the vacuum elbows around the intake manifold will begin cracking and require replacement. Same goes for the EVAP system.

If there are a lot of miles on it, check the plug wires - they are dated with month and year of manufacture - and if original, you can complain to the seller about poor maint practices.
Check the tranny fluid for color, it is supposed to be red/pink. If it has never been flushed and is somewhat brown, complain and plan on a nice flush with Mobile 1 ATF.
It probably needs new struts. Check if it has Nivomats in the rear, these last a long time and are expensive, but the fronts are easy to do.
Check all of the cabin electricals, including the 2 remotes. Only a dealer can program the remotes.
Use the key in the driver's door and the rear hatch. My rear hatch lock finally froze up :) but we get a lot of salt.
