Buying advice for 2002 V70 FWD V70-XC70

Hello all,
I've got a 1990 740 GLE I am ready to part with and am considering a 2002 V70 FWD. These are the specs and what I am wondering about is if there are any know issues with this model I should be asking/looking out for.

2002 V70
Auto 5 speed 2.4L I5
58,000 miles Asking $9800
Two owner car. Formerly in Florida.

It's at a dealer in Minneapolis I used to take my 740 to before I moved to
to Wisconsin. I like the pricing. According to the sales guy this car is not due for a timing belt until 105,000 miles.....is this correct? It has been serviced at this dealership since have been in Minneapolis. Any thoughts on this subject would be appreciated.

Lastly,am I correct in assuming that a similar vintage V70 Cross Country AWD could potentially be more repair prone (due to AWD) and that due to the AWD it will also get worse gas mileage? If so by what percentage? My search would be easier if I included XC's as there are simply many more of those in the used market here.

Thanks again in advance.

    Buying advice for 2002 V70 FWD V70-XC70

Make sure the dealer throws in the 60K service as part of the deal. Get a copy of the service records from the dealer to keep with the car. Those records list what they did and when, no dollars or names are printed.

The XC and the V are different animals. The AWD robs about 2-3 mpg along with 20bhp. In turn, the XC will never spin out in snow/wet. The XC also has more ground clearance and a turning circle that will leave you wanting in parking lots :)

The V has a little torque steer at full throttle, weighs less than the XC so that it is more fun to drive. Maintenance costs are far less because of the lack of a prop shaft and all of the components of AWD.

You cannot compare the V or the XC to your 740. They drive differently and require a learning curve to get used to. Watch out for understeer!
