Poor radio reception V70-XC70 98

I have the station wagon with antenna wires in the window glass on the rear side windows. I have never felt the FM reception was great, but since this summer it's been terrible except for the strongest stations. Recently when I followed a friend, he had good reception for a public radio station that I could not receive. The radio was replaced last winter because the power button would stick. I think it might be the antenna instead of the radio, but my volvo dealer says the only thing they can do is replace the radio again. If it's the antenna what can I do about it?

    Hi Betsy,

I have the same type of car, and I've seen many posts about the reception. It's not just you; we visit relatives 50 miles away and my previous car with Alpine tuner received stations the whole way; the wagon does not. The antenna system in the wagon is just poor. I don't think it's the radio. It's too bad, because the rest of the system is really pretty nice. I've considered adding a mast-type antenna to the front passenger fender, but hate to bore a hole there. However, it's an option that a decent stereo shop could perform. Good luck & let me know if you get it solved.

Jim, I would think(but I am not sure) that the would be a aftermarket antena that could be mounted inside you car.....like one of those powered ones....no?

Shop around on the web who knows what you will find

We have a similar problem, but it IS the radio. When I slip the radio out of the dash and push on the bottom in just the right place, my reception is fine (like it was when the car was new). I'm trying to find out if anyone can repair this radio, or if the only option is to turn mine in to Volvo and purchase a reconditioned one (to the tune of $200 -YIKES).
