Re: Pls Help ID CD-Changer 850 1995

Hi

Very interested in this thread

What is the result for those of you who have purchased and installed CD Changers?

What is the brand & model # that goes with SC-811 head unit?

Alpine or JVC? (I heard today that Alpine must go with Alpine, is this true?)

Where is the best location to install? (my least favorite choice is the glovebox) Under the passenger dash? under the passenger seat? or in the bed of the wagon?

Details on routing the wiring?

Good luck to all

brickboard is the best

Re: Pls Help ID CD-Changer 850 1995

I'll be doing mine tomorrow probably. I'm going to use the USA Audio (private labeled JVC best I can tell) changer. They sell adapter cables for most O.E. changer control capable radios. After seeing the one the guys in the shop did last week on an 850 GLT wagon for the local Volvo repair shop I'm sold on the location (under the passenger seat). If I had a sedan I would likely go trunk mounted. I hate the idea of loosing what little glove box space this car has and the cargo area of the wagon with kids in a third backseat is out of the question. I'm told the install was super-easy (but the installer is good...I'm a service tech who fixes stuff once it is out of the car and I can fix cars...but good car audio installation work is an art and I respect that). I'll post my experience to this thread when I get the job done. The USA Audio changers (I have no affiliation with them aside from doing repairs for a shop that sells them) are commonly available on ebay, but are a little more money than the glovebox changers from Volvo if you buy from the discount dealers. The 3 year warranty is a plus for me...I don't like working on Alpine CD changers for reasons I'll spare you all of for now. I have no problems working on JVC changers (assuming that is really who made this thing).

Re: Pls Help ID CD-Changer 850 1995

I ordered the changer (glove unit) from the TX dealership (former Nils Sefeldt). It was, as quoted here, $200 for both changer and installation kit. This seems like an easy job, since the stereo is so close. I also hate to lose glove box space, but will go for it for now. If I find it unacceptable, I'll think of relocating the changer. I do not like trunk location either, under the passenger seat seems like the best place.

So, Mike, if you have a chance, please check with the guys who will work on your changer if it is possible to find a long cable that connects the SC-811 stereo with the Alpine (Volvo) changer. Long enough to route it from under the pass. seat to the stereo. This is the part I'll be looking for.

I would also be interested to know how they secure the changer to the floor.
