Resetting Airbag and ABS lights 850

1996 850 w/ OBDII only, 5 speed manual, non Tracs

Does anyone know how to reset the airbag and ABS lights? I can't seem to access either control module w/ my sophisticated OBDII Scan tool that has KEY and CAN.

Anyone know the numberic value of the airbag and ABS control modules? Is it different on older volvos then on newer cars?

Thanks!

Sorry, 1996 and on, only the dealer can reset the SRS light. ABS should be within your relm, probably a cheaper scanner borrowed from an autoparts store.

Most SRS warnings are because of the wiring at the base of the seatbelt getting chafed.

Are you serious? I can't reset the SRS light myself? Is the system still active when the light has been tripped?

I know why it is on. I swapped out the seats w/ some nicer/newer V70 seats and when I did this I changed out the gas discharge seat belt tensioners. When I reconnected the battery, I forgot to reconnect one of the plugs for the seat belt tensioner.

So the SRS system has some sort of built in memory that retains fault codes even when the power is disconnected and/or the problem is remedied?

As always, thanks for your insight.

Unfortunately, yes. The SRS and climate control have their own memory and cannot be reset by pulling the battery cable. I guess that Volvo thought that it was too important for shade tree folks and wanted Volvo involvement for any SRS problems.

My dealer will turn it off if I ask nicely and pay for an oil change at the same time :)
