Hi everyone, I have this 98 XC that I have already replaced the ABS Module ans all is well in that department.
When I try to start the engine, all the warning lights test but the starter doesn't engage until after about ten attempts. I assume the problem is in the switch or the starter solenoid.
Does anyone have another or a positive solution ?

The problem proved to be the stake on connection from the switch on the solenoid. There was a little corrosion inside the clip. I sprayed some contact cleaner on it and wiped the lug on the solenoid off, reconnected the wire and all is well again.

A very good possibility that the starter solenoid is on its last legs or needs to be cleaned. An easy test would be to take an old screwdriver and short the starter wire to ground. Of course, the car will be in Park and the ignition turned to pos II :)
