Pecking lifters ???? 850 94

We have a '94 850T and the lifters are pecking when the engine is cold. The oil pressure is going to be checked later this week by a mechanic so I was wondering what an acceptable range is for the oil pressure on this car? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

    Re: Pecking lifters ???? 850 94

I was hearing this on my '94 as well and I happened by my dealer for some parts and thought I'd ask a tech that I trust what he thinks.

He said we should check the oil pressure as the car has some 230k miles on it. The oil pressure at all rpm's was a fair bit above the "specifications" and the tech said this was pretty consistent with what he's seen in these 850's.

Bottom line was he thought my "pecking" sound was actually my injectors and said not to worry about it until they started leaking.

I must say that at total cold start, there is a distinct pecking, that the tech did not hear due to my car having already been warmed up on the drive to the dealer. But given that the oil pressure is strong, he said it most cetainly is not the dreaded o-ring shrink on the oil pump pick-up tube that has reportedly caused some top end troubles in some engines.

Keep us posted to your findings.

    Claude
