Wagon tailgate trouble 850 1995

Hello all,

Has anyone figured out an inexpensive way to fix a worn out interior tailgate panel? On my '95 850 wagon, the plastic holes which normally accept the four black snap fittings have worn so they don't hold anymore. So far I've thought of bending homemade, pre-drilled sheetmetal clips over the hole supports or fiberglassing around the holes to beef them up.

Also, are the 850's tailgate shock supports (hidden above the headliner?) hard to replace? Anyone know of a low-cost source?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

    Chris:

I'm sorry. The part number is a Volvo part number. Bay 13 just gives you installation instructions (look under Repair/Maintenance, Trim). Just call you local Volvo dealer to order the repair kit.

The Volvo repair kit part number (from Bay 13) is 9451866. I just ordered it for my '96 850 wagon, cost: $9.00.

tailgate shocks are easy to replace, just be armed with a torx driver for the various little bits of trim you'll need to remove to access them. 30 minute job, tops.

    Chris,

Volvo dealer or IPD sell a repair kit for it. I repaired mine with the kit. So far so good.

Bay13 has the instruction to replace trunk shock in sedan. I believe the wagon version will be similar. You have to remove the D-pillar panels and replace the shock supports with the tailgate closed.
