Oil pressure light stays ON 2-3 seconds Is this normal? V70-XC70 2001

Hello guys,

I recently bought V70 T5 2001. It has 85K km on it.
The timing belt was replaced few days ago and I noticed that the oil pressure light stays ON for about 2-3 seconds when the engine starts cold.

Is this normal???

My wife's 850 (96) the light goes off immediately when the engine starts cold.

The oil and the filter were also changed few weeks ago. It is "Penrite" - fully Synthetic 5W-60 (Australia).
http://www.penrite.us/nextpage.php?navlink=modern&pgcol=e4d39d

No oil leaks.

Again, is this normal, or am I too paranoic ? When should the light go OFF ?
Is the oil too thin? I am using the same oil on the 850.

After the timing belt was replaced the engine seems to run normal, may be fractionally noiser.(But it could be my paranoic perception).

Regards, Stilian V70 2001 T5

I would switch both cars to 5W40 as the heaviest oil, there is no reason for 60 weight even in Alice Springs. If you are not using OEM or Mann filters, I suggest you do so at the next oil change.
If your 850 is non turbo, then that engine does not have cylinder oil sprayers and that could make a difference. A few seconds of oil pressure light is not a disasterous thing, but needs monitoring. There could be oil pickup problems with the O rings at the bottom of the sump, or sludge buildup.

      Thanks Klaus,
      I just checked again:
The 850R - oil light goes immediately from cold.
The V70 - oil light takes 1-2 seconds from cold.
Both cars are using the same oil 5W-60. Not in Alice Springs ...:-)

Will check what soft of oil cartriges my mechanic have used. As you know V70 2000+ have cartrige replacement. The plastic outer body is reuseable.

I also posted that question on DSTC ligth that goes ON occasionally and OFF when the engine is switched off.
After reading the Volvo manual (Australian editon 2001 - page 28) it says literaly:
      >>- If the symbol shines with a steady light, without being switched off, it >>means that there is a fault.
      >> - Stop the car and switch off the engine.
      >> - Start the engine again.
      >> - If the warining symbol goes out the fault was *temporary* and it is *not neccessary* to visit a workshop.

What it actually means: Volvo knows that there is something wrong with the sensors, connectors, computer, software , etc ... but can't fix it. Live with it!

      Regards, Stilian
