DTC code 4-3-3, Rear knock sensor signal missing or faulty 850 1994

Well My check engine light came on this past Friday and I read the code and reset the ce light. Yeaterday it came back and with the same code.

My experience with the "signal missing or faulty" has usually meant the sensor needs to be replaced unless there's more than one code thrown and then one can mask the other for the true cause of the ce or problem etc.

My question is where are the knock sensors and how much of a job is it to diy and what should I have for tools etc? where's the best place to order the parts from too?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't believe faulty knock sensors are a common problem. I'd investigate the connector and wiring before going off and spending $$$ on a new one. My first move would be to pull the connector, clean if necessary and replace - especially if the only symptom is the CEL. Besides the CEL are there any other symptoms like loss of power or predetonation?

hi, the knock sensors locate behind the air intake manifold, which is difficult to get to and if you go for it then clean/replace the pcv system as well. take your time to clean the engine in general as well. Neg battery off!
-when removing fuel rail be carefull not to damage nozzles
-remove idle air control valve and hoses around
-remove intake manifold (one bolt underside and oil dip stick holder)
    and you are there
-notice the orientation of the sensors and wiring route
btw, I have 2x850-94 w 500kkm ond and never problems with knocking sensors so it might also be the wiring or bad connectors causing the problems

I haven't had any noticeable change in the way the car runs, none at all. The car's a turbo wagon and the power hasn't changed at all during this time as I looked for that in driving it. I've had some problems with connections in the past that I've either remade or replaced, it's got 203k miles on it in New England !! This is my daily driver, I have a 97 R sedan also but it doesn't get out much cause it only likes sunny days. But being my daily driver I have to plan maintenance accordingly, I'm on vacation the last two weeks of the month here and was planning on doing the PCV then because it is original.

Since I first posted I was able to come up with pictures of the sensors in a PCV write up over on VS. I'm wondering now where the connections terminate and if I can get at them to look at them etc. Not the point at which they enter the engine but where they connect beyond that or is that where I should be looking, at the block under the intake??

Hi, cable routing is unknown to me - sorry. signals go from sensor below intake manifold to ICM control module in box (closest to engine in my car) behind dtc a/b terminals.
        #A22/23 KS1 signal/ground, #24/25 KS2 signal/ground.
#A connector diconnected: ground to engine graound 0ohm, signal to engine ground 1Mohm. to check the cabling for breaks and short cuts you should be able to disconnect also the sernsor end of cabling to measure.
running over 3500rpm with load KS signal should be measurable (2-7?) but here I'm on thin ice.

Thank you Tapsa, I'm gonna get into it when I get the intake off and change out the pcv.
