XC70 Instrument Cluster: Bryan Goldberg

Hi Bryan,
Thanks for your response. To answer your question; no, the cluster has not been removed at all.
As I`ve said, this is my wife`s car & I don`t drive it on a daily basis. The issue arose recently & when she explained the symptoms I thought it sounded serious & expensive. The other day she said that problem seemd to have resolved itself but I thought "not likely" & my drive into town yesterday supported that view. My questiion is where exactly do I check that connector to which you refer? It would seem that there is something loose as it appears to be an intermittent issue.
Thanks again,
Rich

Klaus,
Oops! I stand duly chastised once again for starting a new thread & directing it to a specific individual( only because BG gave me some "hope" of not having to take said XC70 to the dealer & depleting savings account).
BTW, it`s "ranch to market"; ranchers are very, very sensitive to the distinction between farm & ranch. Perhaps I should be putting that issue in the "opinions" forum! I`ll give you an exemption because of the Minnesota zip but if you lived in Mt or Wy, well.........!
Our ranch is only a quarter mile off pavement so I don`t see gravel roads as an issue.
Rich

In Texas...

They are FM road designations: Farm to Market. Wyoming only has a dozen roads, the rest is all driveways to the "ranch" :)

Give that dash a good whack the next time it acts up, or not at all. Or try pushing the top of the instrument panel forward a few millimeters.

XC70 Instrument Cluster: Bryan Goldberg

Hi TL,

Klaus is right--the jostling on a rough road could be a loose connection.

Volvo usually locates connectors on the top of the instrument cluster. Depending on the year of your XC 70, that may involve removing the dash pad.

Before you attempt this, check the archives for instructions on that model or ask Klaus.

Were any instrument bulbs replaced? This would require removing the cluster.

Keep us posted.

Bryan

Rather than starting a new thread, why not just reply to Bryan's response to your original thread? That way he will get email notification that there is a response.

Your farm to market road is gravel, I thought, and should be quite rough this time of year. That's why I suggested a fist bump, just to see oif the plugs is loose. The plugs can be seen only if you take out the knee bolster on the driver's side.
