Replacing axles, what else should I look at? 850 1994

I'm planning on replacing the axles on my wifes 94 850T as one of the boots has been split and throwing grease for over a year. I was gettin ready to order from FCP but wondered if I should replace anything else while I have it apart. Should I replace any bushings, seals, etc while I have it on jackstands and the shafts removed? Also, what size socket for the axle nut? I've been reading and searching this site for about 7 years, but this my first post.

It is highly recommended that you replace the two transaxle seals whenever you do an axle. The old seals get hard, inflexible and brittle and can be damaged on removal of the old axles. The seals are cheap, so replace them while you are in the neighborhood. Be careful, when pulling them out, not to mar the bore in which they are seated.

I find that it more economical and satisfying when I replace everything at the same time. I've divided my front suspension into four systems: 1) brakes, lower suspension (A-arm w/ball joint, inner and outer tie rod ends), upper suspension (strut, spring seat, strut bearing) and driveshaft (including the hubs and seal). If an part in each of these four systems fail, I replace all the parts in that system, on both side of the car, at the same time. I have found that if one part of a system is failing, odds are that the other parts in the system are not far behind.

The stock axle nuts use a 36mm socket, most of the aftermarket replacements use a 32mm socket.

I hope you aren't buying the junk Chinese, $79.00, FEQ axles from FCP. If they even fit at all in the first place they fail again within 6 months. FCP also sells EMPI brand axles that are actually OK.

If you want the best I have never heard of a complaint about axles from www.raxles.com.

It is always a good opportunity to check you ball joints, ties rod ends, and sway bar links while you are in the area.
