Possibel vaccum leak: Need advice S70 1998

Just recently the vents in the car stopped blowing at their full capacity. They blow at about half their usual force even on the highest setting with either hot or cold air. We replaced the in cabin air filter, it was pretty dirty but did not alleviate the problem. The vents will sporadically blow at their full force when the car is not moving, but once we step on the gas they go back down. This led my dad to think that there is a vacuum leak somewhere but this does not happen every time we press on the brake. How would we go about checking for a vacuum leak?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Tell your Dad, these new fangled cars use computers and no longer rely on vacuum for heater systems.
Do the Recirc and AC lights flash on start up? Assuming, of course, that the fan is in the auto position, as are the vents positions. Try that first, because if the lights flash 20 times, that means there is an error in the system.

My HVAC system (1998 Volvo V70 T5)is doing very similar things.

May we assume that your blower motor is not making strange noises, other than unusual velocity changes? If it is making odd noises, then the blower motor may be the problem.

Does your car have Automatic Climate Control (ACC)? If yes, then your problem may well be the blower motor resistor.

If you car does not have ACC, then you use a different "Resistor".

I have learned from the Brickboard that 10 years is about the service life expectancy of the resistor, which may well be why your and my car are having these symptoms.
