Warranty Extension for 2007 V70 2.5T

Hi All,

Have 46K on the odo of my 2007 V70 2.5T. Before she hits 49K I have the option of buying the Volvo warranty the goes an additional 48 months and 50K miles. Cost is 3277 with a 100 decuctable for each repair. My experince with a 1997 850 was that most of the repairs took place from 75K to 135K with the majority after 100K. It seems to me that I should take the risk and not buy the extended warranty. I drive about 18K a year, mostly freeway. The car has been very reliabe so far. What's your opinion? Have any of you purchased the extended warranty? Did it turn out to be valuble?

FYI, I have an excellent dealer.

Thanks,

Chuck

    Warranty Extension - 2007 V70 2.5T is a good car

Wasn't 2007 the last year for the 2nd version of the V70? It was well tested and refined, a really good car. Also, freeway driving is pretty easy for a car. I think if I were in your high mileage situation, I'd skip the extended warranty.

The price of the warranty is negotiable through your dealer, negotiate!

Will you use it? Will it cover CV joints/axles?

Other than wear items, your biggest concerns are the tranny and the electronic systems.

      Warranty Extension for 2007 V70 2.5T

Good questions. It covers everything except the standard wear items like brakes, wipers and bulbs. It does cover all electronics such as ABS etc, CV joints, suspension components, etc. Borton is the only place I go for service/repair. As you know they are a great shop. The question I am left with is the value of this warranty extension. It seems to me to be worth 2K since there is a $100 deductable. What do you think is a good price to start with for negotiating? I know that you are familiar with these folks as well.

      Thanks,

If you had AWD, I would say go for it. But, you will hit the 100K mark well before the additional 48 months.

Here is what is in store for you if you have a clunker: The tranny will start balking with sensors 1-5 failing. Each one is a couple of hundred bucks. Even Borton will "reccomend" replacing the tranny at $4K.
The newer computers will start to fail after 100K/5years, especially the Driver Information Module which is $1,000 to replace - no fix.
Enough pot holes and a CV will fail, $800.
The PS rack will spring a leak, $$$$.
        The ECC will fail.

If you have all of the above problems before 100K, which is unlikely, then the warranty is well worth it.

If you have a typical Volvo, only one of those above will fail. And paying $3200 up front, plus $100 for each fix, is much too much.

Because you do not DIY, and the local shops also charge over $100/hr book, I would start barganing at $2500 and meet him half way at $2800. That's just under $1,000/year and do not expect using it for the first year, which is a good argument.

If you cannot get Borton to come down, then start saving $100/month and you will be ahead of the game. And stay tuned to the Brickboard for eventual fixes to the 2007 cars.
