Need Stock Rear Door Speaker for Wagon 850 1995

I'm not sure if some of you folks have replaced your stock speakers and have nothing to do with them. I blew one of my rear door (wagon) speakers and am looking for a stock replacement. I would be interested in purchasing one if available. Thanks

Re: Need Stock Rear Door Speaker for Wagon 850 1995

I have the same problem - both rear door speakers broke (cheap design!). I checked with Crutchfield, they have a large selection of 4" speakers that can be fitted in the rear door openings. They have custom-made brackets/spacers that allow to install these 4" units in the existing 5"+ opening. Prices are from $40 to $120 per pair, the brackets are free. The only problem - all of them are 4 Ohm speakers, and the one Volvo has in that spot is 8 Ohm. I am not sure how this will affect the stock stereo - would it be overloaded?

It would be easy to get OEM Volvo speakers, but they are $160 a pair and still cheaply made.

Re: Need Stock Rear Door Speaker for Wagon 850 1997

Hello Robert,

I recently replaced my front drivers side door speaker. I investisgated fixing\replacing from many sources. I searched the internet with the part number on many sites. Had to get one from the dealer. It seemed I was spending more time than the cost of the speaker. It was $50.00 U.S.w\tax

and was simple to replace. Took about 10 minutes. Not sure about the wagon though.

Good Luck,

Kirk

Re: Need Stock Rear Door Speaker for Wagon 850 1997

I had the same problem. The little metal grommet in the cone through which the flexible wires to the tweeter came loose, and started making horrible graunching noises. I managed to solder it back in place with some extra wires and blobs of solder, but it only held for a couple of months and I decided to go for new speakers.

I got a pair of Boston Accoutics co-axials for about $100 and some plastic adapter plates for about $15, and it only took me about 10 mins to change them over. The Bostons are somewhat smaller than the original speakers, but the treble is very sweet, and the bass less boomy. They are less efficient, so are noticably quieter.
