thinking of buying an '04 R or an '06 2.5T S60

For 14K, I am looking at a 2004 S60R w/ all service records. It's just past the 67,000 mile mark / dealer warranty. Assuming it's in great shape after inspection, can I expect reasonable reliability? I change my Volvos oil after 3K (would probably use Mobile 1 on this guy) and use Volvo/Mann filters, transmission flushes after 20K, etc.

It's either this one OR a 2006 S60 2.5T w/ 52K on it, but that one is at the dealer and comes certified pre-owned w/ a powertrain warranty until 100,000 miles or 2011 (but it's 16K).

What do you all think?

Cheers, Paul

240 to 850T to S60R

I bought my '04 S60R from the dealer (certified pre-owned) back in the fall of '07 - she had 38K on the clock and today has 98K....I drive a lot. To date, I've had one problem: the recalled fuel pressure sensor (which was supposedly replaced, I had to argue with the dealer that the replacement was also faulty....which it was). Otherwise, I have not had any problems whatsoever.

She was running on standard oil when I got her, switched her to Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil (figuring the turbo probably heats up the oil more than NA) and change the oil every 5-6K miles. Like KlausC said, your old Mann filters are no good, you'll need to buy filter inserts. I get an average of 25 mpg city/hwy (22/28), this is with a heavy foot.

The only thing to keep in mind is replacement parts are more $. Fuel filter, brake pads, shocks, air filters, etc. I haven't had any problems with the AWD, but if I do I hope it happens in the next 2k since my warranty runs out at 100K!

The R uses a larger turbo and has two intercoolers so you'll get a few extra ponies over the T. Drove the 2.5T and wasn't too impressed, drove the R and brought it home. It's a wolf in sheep's clothing.

But like everyone else is saying, make sure to check the service records!

Your leftover Mann filters won't work, the new cars have filter inserts.
The oil is already synthetic and is good for 7,500 miles for both cars.

Check the specs for the R Vs the light pressure turbo. Last I saw the R had the same engine output, just different panels and tighter suspension. If the R has AWD, there could be some problems before 100K.

Drive both for about 30 minutes.

since we're talking sedan it might be the '06, it's more current and might be better with that budget
