Tailgate struts 850 1995

Hello all!

I am having trouble replacing the tailgate gas-filled shocks on my wagon. How does one compress the new shock enough to fit into place?

Thanks

They will not compress. Did you buy the proper ones? Sedan struts are longer than wagon struts.
At the most, you will need to lift the hatch the extra 1/2 inch to get the strut to lock into place.

They are the same model number as the old ones I took off. And once I removed the old ones, they increased in length 1/2" once I took one end of the socket off the ball joint, and are now the same length as the new ones. I will try and lift the tailgate to its maximum height next weekend.
Thanks
