Trying to replace shifter boot S80 2000

Need advice to remove shifter knob to I can remove torn boot. I released the black plastic ring at the bottom of the knob and attempted to release the plastic clips pressing into the shaft, however unable to move or release the knob.
Help would be appreciated.

did you ever figure it out? I'm getting ready to replace mine. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.
