Just want to mention some fantastic service at Kens Volvo Tech in

Lake Bluff, IL. He is not a dealer. All he works on are Volvo's.

I take my car to him for all service needs. He is very methodical and priced right. I have been very unhappy with two dealers in my area.

I just passed there last night, right on 176 west of Waukegan Road. I meant to ask about it on the board here. Believe it or not I have been wondering about that place since I first noticed it in 1993 or so, living in Lake Forest. There aren't a lot of independent Volvo shops. The others being Ben's Volvo Service (Libertyville?) and North Shore Import Autos in Hubbard Woods (not that close).

Since I work as an import tech (mostly imports) I don't need the service. But I would rather work in that area.

By the way, if you're low on gas when you go over to Volvo tech, take a quick stop at Peacock Mobil, just west of St. Mary's road next to Liberty Auto Mall. My favorite fill-up, usually decent prices (and immune to the holiday rip-offs when I filled up last night).

My brother concurs. We are both Volvo owners with homes in Lake Bluff; no doubt Ken will see my T5 at some point. I must say that Orloff in the city has done well for me, though, and is convenient since I keep another car two blocks away in Bucktown. Has Orloff perhaps been one of your sources of unhappiness? Thanks for endorsement/info.

Ken is great! He never rushes to finish my cars and methodically works and checks everything. So far all I have needed are oil changes & basic preventative maintenance. I really appreciate developing a relationship with a place that knows me by first name and remembers my cars. That is what dealerships aspire to have.

Fields and Highland Park are the dealers I particularly don't care for. I really have no experience with Orloff since I live in the northern burbs. Glad to hear you are happy with Orloff.

I've also heard good things about Ben's Volvo Repair on Peterson in Libertyville. Has anybody had a chance to compare the two?

I used to use Ben's Volvo Repair in the early to mid nineties. At that time, Ben was still there doing most of the work. Don't know if he still is. The service was certainly inexpensive, and very good.

I have not. His shop appears to be much bigger than Kens though.
