Software on automatic transmission V70R AWD -00 V70-XC70 00

Hi,

I have a V70R AWD 99/00 (Laserblue), and I got the software on the transmission upgraded, because I didn't like the way it shifted. The problems I had wen't away, but I suspect this upgrade (or the failed calibration) had sideeffects.

The shifting pattern seems to all wrongs, it shifts to late - has become quite lagged. And it seems like it doesn't take intp account the AWD at all.

So my question: Do AWD and FWD V70R, the one with the adaptive 5 speed, have different programs?

And is it possible to download a FWD-program to a AWD-transmission?

And If it's not the software, what could it be?

The levels has been checked out ok.

I have exactly the same car (even the same color) and went through some of your experience. I had new SW downloaded and the car wasn't right until they reset the adaptive function and did a 're-adaptation' There is a TSB on how to do this properly-it isn't just a matter of resetting the controller, you have to do a defined driving sequence afterwards.

I don't have the tsb number but the factory service rep ought to be able to get it for you.

      Called Service upgrade #107 V70-XC70 00

Steve's right in that indeed the adaptive values need to be reset via Vadis as per SB 30-0002 (8/01) where it does mention that at the very bottom.

Possibly that wasn't done then? Call your service manager.

What I am experiencing, when driving aggressively - braking hard, and going from hard braking to quick accelleration a loud bang is heard from the transmission, as if something is out of it's position.

Did you have any of the symptoms? Did you have a new software installed?

I had a problem when I _released_ the throttle, with a jolt/clunk at that time. Your problem sounds more like a loose mounting or bolt. Do you get any noise when you change directions from reverse to forward or vice versa?

A little, I have thought about this and it might sound like something is loose. There is a clunk when changing direction and setting the car in park. So this could be it? It has been getting worse lately....

          I found a bulletin at alldata.com: http://www.alldata.com/TSB/64/00647175.html

          4430029 MAY 00 A/T - Hard Lockup Engagement/Disengagement

          Could this be related?

Not all these bulletins are relevant for me, I have the B2544T2 engine. Bigger turbo and bore :)

I suspect your problems may lie elsewhere, not with the latest download.

BTW, there has never been a "FWD" V70R. All V70Rs are AWD.

In Europe we have had S70R from 97-99 and V70R from 97-00 and V70RAWD from 99-00. You don't get all the versions over there :)

"is it possible to download a FWD-program to a AWD-transmission?"

NO, not possible. Volvos Vadis cart, a PC can only DL the correct software for your car as that info must be selected first and Volvo won't allow one to put the wrong software into a car as it checks the cars hardware first (built in safety feature, "bozo-proof").

I'm unaware of any complaints after the DLs but you might try calling your service manager to see if they can contact the tech hot line about it. Maybe something else can be done but that's just a "maybe".

Could there be problems during the calibration?

NO, there is NO calibration. The software goes into the correct vehicle (can't install wrong software in any vehicle) and it's done. Nothing else is done. This is how Volvo's done this, no adjustments, no calibrations.
