r exhaust for xc? V70-XC70 1998

this was discussed on the sweedespeed board but no one had the answer...will the 'r' dual rear muffler bolt up in place of the xc rear mufflers?

Re: r exhaust for xc? 850 1998

Jim

I know of one person who replaced the single outlet awd exhaust with the dual outlet R version. It was a straight forward and relatively inexpensive change. He actually quoted the Volvo part number, but later mentioned that the part appeared to be no longer available.

Re: r exhaust for xc? V70-XC70 1998

I have an 'R' with dual exhaust, my ex has a 2000 XC, and from the quick visual I did, they are interchangeable. It looks like the only difference is the exhaust tip; there is actually a muffler on each side of the car, just that only one has a tailpipe

thanks for the reply and that was my impression as well. given the fact that the 'r' muffler can be had for $200, why would anyone buy the IPD dual muffler for three times the price? are there any real gains as between the two [IPD versus stock 'r']when neither is a full length system but only from the rear wheel arch back?

If you don't have a performance chip, then no the performance increase with the dual exhaust is barely noticeable, if noticeable at all. You can go with the "R" setup if looks is just what you want. However, if you do plan in upgrading the ECU, the iPD exhaust is best since it is less restrictive, hence the 10HP gain. It's also made of stainless steel all around, so it should last for a while. The drone at idle and growling at WOT is just perfect :)

Someone was mentioning his upgrade to an 'R' setup.. the only downside was that the exhaust smoke was coming out from only one side when cold outside.. personally that sucks and confirms the stock restriction.

Your call..

Re: r exhaust for xc? V70-XC70 2000

_Some_ exhaust comes out of the passenger side, but not very much compared to the driver's (main) side. After a while, the difference in soot deposits is noticeable as well. It might be easier just to attach a dummy tailpipe to the right side muffler though you might want to somehow dirty it up a bit so it looks functional ;-)
